Book reviews are always tricky, this one will not be the exception. The Husband’s Secret covers the story of three women and how three separate lives are linked by a secret. The story is set in Australia and delves into the lives of Cecilia, Tess and Rachel. Cecilia is a powerhouse, witty and has a job she enjoys and a loving family. Tess is rocked by a revelation that changes her life and gets her involved in the secret story line. Rachel’s character is interesting, she is a grieving woman and a loving grandmother that struggles with life after a personal tragedy.
I find the characters are diverse and all different in their own ways yet are inevitably connected by different aspects of their lives. There are some trivial aspects that are sort of cliche such as the Tupperware saleswoman thing but worst of all the fact that is fairly easy to determine what the secret is. The story however ends up not being so much about the secret itself but the consequences of the secret. It took me a bit to warm up to this concept and once you realize what the secret is you might want to stop reading. I urge you to continue, you will find yourself feeling the emotional ups and downs with these characters and laughing at the witty lines. Overall, is a good and entertaining read that has a good balance between a little drama and some dark humor.
